FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long do solar panels last?

Solar panels typically have a lifespan of 25 to 30 years, sometimes even longer. This doesn't imply that your roof panels will cease generating electricity after a couple of decades. It means their energy output will gradually decline to meet what solar panel manufacturers deem optimal for fulfilling the average household's energy requirements. With diligent care and maintenance, you can anticipate enjoying substantial solar advantages for the next 20 to 30 years.

  • What if I want to move?

We simplify the process of transferring your solar lease agreement to new homeowners. Our dedicated service transfer specialists manage everything, from educating realtors and potential buyers to coordinating with escrow officers, title agents, home inspectors, and other relevant parties. When you're ready to move, reach out to us and we'll promptly initiate the transfer process for you.

  • What savings can I anticipate with solar energy?

When you sign up for a design, we will work with you to estimate your potential monthly energy bill savings. This calculation considers factors such as your utility provider, electricity consumption, and sunlight exposure at your residence. We only suggest solar if it aligns with your home energy requirements and profile.

  • Is the solar + Battery installation free?

The answer to both these questions is that the system is installed as a third party owned system (TPO). Since we own the system Solar Panels + Batteries, we will maintain and cover the cost of any repair or replacement to the system as necessary over the next 25 years. Due to the fact that it’s owned by a third party, there is no purchase necessary by the homeowner for the equipment as installed. The homeowner is purchasing the power from the system.

  • Will KIUC take me out of Schedule Q in the future without notice?

Up until this point KIUC has maintained and “Grandfathered” rate plans for Solar without changes as long as the Solar design stays the same. If the customer sells their home, the schedule q program will pass on to the next member on that property that already has Solar installed.

  • Does my home qualify for solar?

Many factors influence your home's suitability for solar, such as its location, roof orientation, shade exposure, and age. Book an appointment to assess whether your home is suitable for solar energy and receive a customized analysis using our exclusive solar design technology to gain insight into your energy requirements.

  • How many solar panels do I need for my home?

Every household is unique. When determining the number of solar panels your home requires, consider the following questions:

How much electricity do I consume? Review your electric bills to gauge your annual kilowatt-hour (kWh) usage. We'll discuss this in detail during your complimentary solar consultation to determine the optimal power output for your panels.

What is your local climate like? The amount of sunlight reaching your location affects the number of panels needed.

How much direct sunlight does your roof receive? Factors like shading, roof orientation, and personal preferences can influence the size of your system.

We utilize proprietary solar design technology called BrightPath™ to create a personalized system that maximizes energy production more efficiently and effectively than manual methods.

  • Do you take over my electric bill?

No, the homeowner maintains the relationship with the electric company as usual. Any exported power that is credited on the electric bill is always benefited to the homeowner. KIUC will for the time being, allow the homeowner/member to sell electric power that they do not use. This program is called Schedule Q *This program is subject to change without notice

  • Can I cash out my Solar Credit on the KIUC bill?

Solar Credits are cashable as long as the KIUC member requests a check no later than the end of January each year. The credit must be greater than $100
